JASMINE MOVING INTO NEW ROOM

This is a sketch for my book JASMINE AND BOO, and a variation of an illustration I posted a few weeks ago. Jasmine and her imaginary cat Boo are trying to settle into their new room in their new house. Jasmine and Boo do everything together and help each other. However in this instance Boo is behaving like any other playful cat and not being of much use!

MR. RUMPLE'S PET STORE

I had always wanted to do a book with magic spells. I imagined a sort of Harry Potter primer for little ones. I am an author/illustrator and could see a path to fame and riches. This book is about a pet store in which the pets turn the customers into fish so as not to get sold. They want to stay together.

One of the problems was I couldn’t stop Mr. Rumple from taking over the book. He was so endearing and more interesting than the protagonists. Children mostly don’t want to read about adults in picture books. You can see this fun magic romp for free in my gallery in a slide show.

BUZETTE

One of the beautiful spots on earth is the region of Provence in France. The farmers grow lavender, olives and make the best honey from the lavender. The colorful rows of lavender wind their way up and down the hills popping out against the azure blue sky.

Once I thought of the name Buzette for a bee, I knew she would have to live in Provence. After all, she would have to be a French bee. It then seemed natural to me that her best friend would be a silly goose. You can check out this book and beautiful Provence in a free slide show in my gallery.

My Dog Henry

Henry

Henry

Like most author/illustrators, when I started writing picture books I chose my dog as my protagonist.

Henry is a Yorkshire terrier which means, like all self-respecting Yorkies, he is an over opinionated determined little sod. I adore him and everything he does. I didn’t know at the time that EVERYONE writes about his or her dog or cat. Getting published is already near to impossible, but writing about one’s dog practically eliminates one from the get go.
