Having written and illustrated my first picture book about my beloved Yorkshire terrier, I had to devote the second one to his best friend Rocket. Rocket is a Havanese and the two dogs were inseparable. They had playdates on the beach and sleepovers. Being black and white, Rocket was graphically fun to illustrate.

When on Crissy Field beach in San Francisco, I noticed that Rocket after a time abandoned Henry and went off to try and play with the cooler bigger dogs. This inspired a story, which you can see in my books gallery for free in a slide show.

Henry

Like most author/illustrators, when I started writing picture books I chose my dog as my protagonist.

Henry is a Yorkshire terrier which means, like all self-respecting Yorkies, he is an over opinionated determined little sod. I adore him and everything he does. I didn’t know at the time that EVERYONE writes about his or her dog or cat. Getting published is already near to impossible, but writing about one’s dog practically eliminates one from the get go. You can see this book for free in my gallery.
