DRAGONS LOVE TACOS by ADAM RUBIN and DANIEL SALMIERI

Dragons Love Tacos

Dragons Love Tacos

DRAGONS LOVE TACOS is a very successful book created by the team of Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri. Publishers don’t usually like teams as they like to find their own illustrators.

One has only to look at and then read this book to see why they made an exception. The story and illustrations are delightful, whimsical, and original in every way!

The best bits are in the details, which are humorous and appealing to children. Adam Rubin writes in a chatty way that is easy to follow and Daniel Salmieri illustrates in a unique and wonderfully textured style.

If you haven’t yet discovered this book, you need to do so immediately as you and your children will love it!

ONE COOL FRIEND is an enchantingly funny book about a very proper boy acquiring a penguin friend, a story with something for everyone. It was written by Toni Buzzeo and illustrated by David Small—that is to say the perfect team.

Toni Buzzeo has a totally original concept and David Small’s illustrations are whimsical and very funny.

This book has been out for a time but is still one of my favorites.

THE WONDERFUL THINGS YOU WILL BE by EMILY WINFIELD MARTIN

The Wonderful Things You Will Be by Emily Winfield Martin

Authors who can write in rhythmic rhyme are a mystery and wonderment to me! Emily Winfield Martin not only did this but did beautiful illustrations as well! It hardly seems fair!

Her book The Wonderful Things You Will Be is a great success. With lovely, and sometimes humorous, illustrations and a clever gatefold with kids in costumes, she has written a sure winner.

This book can’t help being a favorite with parents and children. It is definitely a treat when parents find a book they actually want to read over and over again to their children.

SO, WHAT'S IT LIKE TO BE A CAT? by KARLA KUSKIN

What's It Like To Be A Cat? by Karla Kuskin

Karla Kuskin was an award-winning poet and author of many children’s books. All of them are fun and most original. She received multiple awards.

My favorite is: So what’s it like to be a cat? For starters it is endlessly original and wonderfully illustrated with Betsy Lewin’s drawings—a perfect combination.

It is such a fun idea to have a boy interview, in perfect rhyme, a cat on what it is like to be a cat. The book is a delight to any cat lover but also for any child learning to understand it is okay to be different.

REVOLTING RHYMES by ROALD DAHL

Revolting Rhymes, by Roald Dahl

Revolting Rhymes, by Roald Dahl

A lot of us have been delighted by Roald Dahl's many books illustrated by Quentin Blake. I have always found them brilliant and effortless.

I was most surprised to learn that Dahl wrote and rewrote, struggling over every word. Considering how much I struggle when writing, I find this somewhat encouraging. Roald Dahl followed a very strict daily routine, doing the same things every day at the same time. His magic ingredient might have been his one gin and tonic with lunch and his chocolate bar chosen from a red plastic box after lunch. I might have to try that.

His stories are delightfully politically incorrect. My favorite one comes from his Revolting Rhymes book—Jack And The Beanstalk. A You Tube film was made based on the original illustrations of Quentin Blake, with the voices of Timothy West and Prunella Scales.

The story is so cleverly written and illustrated that it isn’t remotely revolting. After watching this You Tube, please go to my gallery and check out if gin and tonics plus chocolate bars are helping my writing.
