MO WILLEMS

The Thank You Book, by Mo Willems

The Thank You Book, by Mo Willems

Everyone who likes picture books loves Mo Willems—he is brilliant. Some of us are silly enough to think we might write and illustrate something similar to his hugely successful ELEPHANT AND PIGGIE series. We soon discover that though they are simple and obvious, they are special and magical. It is a bit like thinking one might do a portrait in the Picasso style.

The point in all of them is that Elephant and Piggie are complete opposites but best friends. Each book has them solving a problem in their own way, but succeeding by combining who they are and how they see things.

Mo Willems’ latest book is: The Thank You Book.

Some of the other titles are: Should I share my ice cream?, Waiting Is Not Easy, My New Friend Is So Fun!, We Are In a Book!, There Is a Bird on Your Head!

What is there not to love about an adorable pig that is passionate about massively buttered toast! We can all identify with the sentiment.

They are early chapter books written by the ever-popular Kate DiCamillo and illustrated by Chris Van Dusen. All the books are warm hearted with a compelling jolly romp. The readers are let in on the joke from the start by the raucous way in which the stories are told. The books are easy to read and the stories easy to follow. The illustrations have exaggerated characters with vintage cartoon flair. There are eight books in the series:

MERCY WATSON TO THE RESCUE
MERCY WATSON GOES FOR A RIDE
MERCY WATSON FIGHTS CRIME
MERCY WATCON: PRINCESS IN DISGUISE
MERCY WATSON GOES FOR A RIDE
MERCY WATSON THINKS LIKE A PIG
MERCY WATSON: SOMETHING WONKY THIS WAY COMES
MERCY WATSON COMES BACK TO THE FARM
